Ghostec had the pleasure of going to a private home here in Lynchburg, Virginia for an investigation.  The histories of paranormal incidents are many with the family before, during, and after the owner’s generation.  There is a dark shadowy-type figure that walks from near the front door, down the hall and stops before going into a room that has been used as a living room and a bedroom through the years.  The owner, Donna, tells me the figure stops at the threshold of that room and then disappears.  She has never known it to pass into the room, just halts at that one point.

The basement door is about where the figure stops.  We went into the basement, did EVPs and pictures, but did not get any evidence that we considered to be paranormal.  There is legend that tells of a young girl who hanged herself there after being distraught over her boyfriend.  We wondered how she could have done this as the height of the basement is not very high.  Then Donna told me that the stairs had been built by her grandfather and prior to that, it had just been a ladder down.  That was beginning to make sense then.  The girl could have attached a rope and simply stepped through the door off the ladder.  That would be a distinct possibility.  This story has not been proven but certainly adds a haunted ambience to the old place.

This home is 100 years old with only some recent additions due to a fire in the1990s.  It is a two story house, having a bedroom and bath upstairs.  The bedroom upstairs had been the owner’s room when she was younger and she always felt being watched from the window, catching peripheral images from the corner of her eye.  The room was always cold and given the living room was directly under it, this should have been a case of heat rising.  Many family members attest to the coldness of the room throughout time.

The Ghostec team had personal experiences there.  One of our Impressionists, Peggy, got noise and pain in her left ear at the time Gary and Sue were in the basement doing a recording to talk to the hanged girl. Sandy normally has acute smelling of things such as flowers or perfume, etc; in a haunted location, but did not have it there. She did however have an icy feeling in her back. Nanci and Susie felt disorientation in the room last used as a bedroom by her family downstairs; Susie felt some nausea. Scott had the feeling of being watched from windows while outside the house, but Donna had covered all the windows before we got there. 

Joe and Alice sat alone upstairs in Donna’s old room which defied her and was really warm. As they sat in the darkness, across the room from each other, Alice felt a touch on her arm. She was again touched as we were ready to leave.  Alice and Joe are our biggest skeptics on the team. Maybe the ghost wanted Alice to know there is the possibility of things that go bump in the night.

In the hundred or so still pictures taken, one or two remains suspect, but will have to be analyzed a bit more before they could be posted.  They are orb-like anomalies and Ghostec is very critical concerning the orb theory, without additional evidence to concur.

Gary did not pick anything on his camcorder which he put on a tripod to view the hallway. He also did numerous EVPs with team members in all areas.  We simply could not get enough evidence scientifically to say the house is haunted, but again, we as responsible teams members do not discount all the activity we experienced. Sometimes, it take a few visits to a place to become comfortable and one with its environment. We cannot make a spirit appear on demand.

We said goodbye to the old house that stands empty. Our thanks to Donna for the investigation of her old home-place.

We will hold this investigation open to the possibilities of having ghosts.
