Date: Fall 2005

City: Near Charlotte

State: North Carolina

Written by: Sue

In the fall of 2005 Ghostec members Scott, Susie and Sue were permitted to do a mini-investigation at a fire station that is purportedly haunted. When we arrived, we were met by Susie’s father and other members of the fire station. We were able to tour the station both upstairs and down. We did not set up equipment as the station is a working station, both day and night. We did however use our cameras and listened to the odd experiences that have happened there.

The fire station building was only about five or six years old when we visited but the property it was erected on is rich in history. It dates back to some of the earliest people to settle in that county. It was called Goshen Grove. In fact, it is said, the first person to die in the county was buried there in the area.

The property first had a school, then a church or vise versa. That is sketchy information, but Celestine Monks lived there and they built Belmont Abbey which is a beautiful college close by.

Later, a man bought the property, built his house, lived and died there. He worked in textiles and when he died, the wife continued to live in the house. When she died, the house was closed as she left it (table set and everything as if she had just stepped out) and remained untouched for years.

Some of the ghostly apparitions seen in the area are of a woman in a nightgown. Lots of people hypothesize that is the wife of the old man who lived there for such a long time. When something sort of goes awry, appears paranormal in nature, it is blamed on the old man. He was supposed to have been a very hardnosed and tough man to deal with.

The remains of his house no longer stand and around '98-'99, the fire station was erected there. These grown, brave men who fight fire and are there to protect are... well, sometimes brought to chills with the fire station antics of someone unseen. They feel the cold drafts; they hear footsteps, and a couple have seen the man in bibbed overalls. They say that it is not the old man who lived there and worked in textiles, as he always wore a suit. So, who knows who it could be? Also, looking down the hallway, at times, things become misty looking and odd noises are always heard. Headlights have come on and off on the fire trucks when no one is near them.

Susie’s brother had a scary encounter there one evening as he went to get something out of his tool box. While he was bent down, despite the fact he was alone, he saw a figure standing beside him. He grabbed the tool he needed and turned and the figure just disappeared. He said he wasted no time getting out of there. He could not give a complete description but said it was a full bodied person you could see through.

While I would love to validate this haunting, it was not possible to use all of our modern equipment on the site... still it makes for a good story at night when you hear the fire engines off in the distance.

Hauntingly, Sue
